Please have the starter motor checked and, if necessary, replaced in the vehicles concerned (according to the vehicle identification number selection) if possible before vehicle delivery. If vehicles have already been delivered, please have the measure carried out the next time the vehicles enter the workshop. A bolting fault on the long bolt screws can cause the magnets in the starter motor to twist. As a result, the power of the starter motor decreases. As a result, the engine does not start.

SITUATION Unusual noises occur only when operating the steering column in the axial direction. 1. A one-time thump sound at the start of movement Shortly after the steering column starts moving, retracting, or extending, a one-time thump noise is heard. See attached video V32 03 23 2. Voice control of the vehicle and all other telephone (paired mobile devices) functions are not affected. Emergency call location data is unaffected.

Symptom 2 is an additional symptom related to Symptom 1. Diagnose the IHKA fault with ISTA test plans if it is the only fault stored (if no DME faults are stored related to coolant loss, this bulletin repair does not apply).

BMW offers a new special ISTA Installation made available for Roadside Assistance / Mobile Service technicians. The new ISTA Version is also able to be used in case of a Remote Software Upgrade (RSU) programming failure to get the customer car reprogrammed on site. In case of a Remote Software Upgrade failure, the engine start is prevented for safety reasons until the vehicle is programmed correctly. Most of the errors occur when only one control unit fails to program correctly.

The roof function control unit may be programmed incorrectly, allowing the sunroof to close without the key fob present inside the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 118, "Power-Operated Window Systems."

Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Delivery Stop. The nuts holding the catalytic converter to a bracket in the engine compartment may become loose. Over time, this may lead to damage to the exhaust system. The nuts on the catalytic converter bracket in the engine compartment have been incorrectly torqued (19 Nm instead of 28 Nm).

DEACTIVATION OF THE INTERIOR MOVEMENT DETECTOR/TILT ALARM SENSOR IS NOT POSSIBLE: Customer complains that the interior movement detector and the tilt alarm sensor system cannot be deactivated by pressing the lock button on the remote control / BMW display key twice. The second button press on the radio remote control / BMW display key is not detected. Customer may have to press the button 3 times to deactivate the interior movement detector and tilt alarm sensor. CAUSE Software error in the control unit of the roof function center (FZD).

CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE CROSSING TRAFFIC WARNING WHILEPARKING: The check control message (CCM) "Crossing traffic warning. It is possible to continue driving" can appear when parking. This can occur when the vehicle is parked too close to adjacent solid walls such as a single car garage or an underground parking space. The wall can be on either side of the vehicle regardless if the vehicle is pulled in forwards or backed in. If the customer switches the vehicle off and starts it again immediately the same CCM may occur again.

DME FAULT MEMORY ENTRY FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B12 04 19 dated February 2019. Technicians may notice this fault logged during a diagnostic session: Fault code: Control module: Fault Text: 160021 DME Crankshaft sensor: general loss of synchronism Environmental conditions are vehicle speed 0 (stationary) and engine speed less than 1500 rpm. There is no customer-facing symptom nor related check control message displayed. Phantom/pseudo fault due to unsuitable DME software. Background: After parking the vehicle and turning off the engine both DME control units go into sleep mode at different times. The DME of cylinder bank 2 ("secondary") goes into sleep mode first The DME of cylinder bank 1 ("primary") is still awake and can experience a reduction in signal voltage for the crankshaft sensor signal This signal change can mistakenly be evaluated as a skipped crankshaft sensor cog by the DME. If the engine is started while the primary DME is still awake this causes a brief loss of synchronization with the secondary DME. Fault 160021 is logged after three (3) consecutive engine starts with this momentary loss of synchronization. Note: Starting the engine after the primary DME has also gone into sleep mode will avoid the loss of synchronization.
